What a unique find! We seldom come across a Corvette like this one with all of the right options and colors. This 1979 Corvette was sold new right here locally at Reliable Chevrolet in Springfield Missouri and spent its entire life in the Neosho area. The original owner in fact lived in Neosho and there is paperwork included with the car to back all of this information up. Only 26,650 actual miles on this Corvette and does drive like a low mileage car should. Very tight and solid and drives down the road straight with no issues or overheating problems. The car is very fun to drive with the manual transmission and with the L-82 optional engine it has some get up and performance. This Corvette is extremely rare with the L-82 engine and the 4-Speed transmission along with factory air conditioning and several other options. Also adding that this is a real original red on red car just adds to the rarity and value to the car. This was also a very late production build almost to the last week of production and this one could actually be the last L-82 red on red 4-speed car built but we do not have that documentation to back that up. Due to emissions standards and regulations in 1980 there were no L-82 4-speed cars built which makes this being the last year for that and collectable for years to come. Not to many opportunities come around like this one to buy the ultimate 1979 model Corvette and back in the day if you had this one you would have been the top dog in the Corvette World.

EXTERIOR:
The overall exterior and trim of this Corvette is excellent. Original no-hit body that we could tell and all of the panel gaps and fit are exceptional for a Corvette of this era. The hood and headlights align up properly and the doors close with ease. The removable glass t-tops also fit very nice and come on and off very easily. The glass is all good and is not scratched up or nicked up from chips. The paint was redone on the car several years back in base coat clear coat finish and is show quality. The paint is impressive and shines like no other one. The door jambs were left along with all of the original labels left intact and untouched. This one did have the optional front and rear spoilers and those parts are original to this car. They do fit about as good as any as you will see and make the car look much better as this was a 1979 only option and previously was only available on the 1978 Pace Car Editions.

INTERIOR:
The interior on this Corvette is mostly all original with the exception of new seat covers and foam. The original seat covers on the drivers side had a small tear as most all do and instead of trying to match one section of the seat we decided to replace all of them already made up.
We did keep the original seat covers and foam which with a little effort could be repaired and installed back into the car. The original carpet is excellent and the floor mats as well. Dash pad has no cracking and the steering wheel is original and nice. The gauges are sharp and crisp along with the console and center armrest cushion. The upper header panels and windshield surround trim pieces are very nice as well. The original door panels show little to no wear and fit exceptional. The original seat belts also look nice and fresh as if they have been replaced but have not. The rear storage compartment area is clean and neat with the original jack and lug wrench still intact. We did replace one of the rear radio speakers too. The radio is a correct original type am/fm cassette as this was the first year for a cassette player in a Corvette. Gauges all do work with the exception of the original clock.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHASSIS:
Very clean and original for the most part. The original exhaust system is still intact with the exception of the catalytic converter being removed and a test pipe installed. Original engine and drivetrain, original alternator, original spark plug wires, many original components still intact and on this Corvette. We did refinish the valve covers and serviced the car. The radiator has been replaced at one time. The car does not run over 180 degrees even in hot weather and traffic. We have left much of the car alone and not had to do much detailing other than cleaning the spare tire compartment and refinishing the original exhaust pipes and mufflers. The original spare tire has not been used and still intact. The frame is excellent with no rot or rust as this was a Missouri car its entire life and not left out in the elements. The front brake calipers have been replaced as well as the shocks. Overall nice and presentable and shows well. No undercoating on the chassis to hide anything. I would not be afraid to show anyone this vehicle on our lift at anytime. You will be pleased with this one. The engine holds good oil pressure and sounds exceptional for this era of Corvette. The L-82 engine had a higher lift cam than the standard V8, has special heads with larger valves, impact-extruded pistons, a forged steel crankshaft, with each main bearing cap secured by four bolts, plus finned, aluminum rocker arm covers. The L-82 also had special badging on the hood and on the tachometer face.

VIN # 1Z8749S452486
Fifth digit in this vin # is a (4) which designates the L-82
225 HP engine.

This was the 52,486th Corvette Built out of a total 53,807 made in 1979.

The actual build date of this Corvette was Wednesday September 19th, 1979 which was 7 days within the last Corvette built in 1979. This Corvette very well could be the last L-82 4-Speed Red on Red Corvette built!

1979 Corvette Facts:
This was the last year to see the 140 mph speedometer as the government mandated 85 mph speedometers were phased in later in 1979 production and all 1980 Corvettes had them.
The new "high back" seat style introduced in the 1978 pace car replicas was made standard equipment in 1979. Extensive use of plastic in the frame structure resulted in weight reduction of about twelve pounds per seat. The new seats had better side bolster support, and the backs folded at a higher point to permit easier rear storage access. Inertia locking mechanisms restrained the backs in sudden deceleration, negating the need for manual locks. Driver and passenger seat tracks were redesigned for an additional inch of forward travel.
The 1979 fuel filler pipe was redesigned to make it more difficult to modify for leaded-fuel access.
Output for both the base L48 and optional L82 engines increased by 5 hp due to a new "open flow" muffler design. Also, adding the L82's low restriction, dual-snorkel air intake to the base engine added another 5hp.
The front and rear spoilers developed as part of the 1978 pace car package became 1979 options like this car has. The were functional, decreasing drag by about 15% and increasing fuel economy by about a half-mile per gallon. Also, mirror-tint roof panels (RPO CC1), included in the pace car package and optional for late 1978s, were available as 1979 options.
Tungsten-halogen headlight beams were phased into 1979 production early in the production year for increased visibility. These replaced only the high-beam units.
The RPO ZX2 package included dome and courtesy light delay, headlight warning buzzer, underhood light, low fuel warning light, floor mats, intermittent wipers, and right side visor mirror.

Several other nice standard features for the 1979 model include:
The Corvette evolution continues. This year you'll see improvements in the standard 5.7 Litre 4-Bbl. (350 Cu. In.) V8. A Dual snorkel air intake for the air cleaner, larger diameter "Y" pipe exhaust system with new open flow mufflers improve engine breathing and power output. And response throughout the speed range is improved on Corvettes with automatic transmission through the use of a new, higher numerical 3.55 rear axle ratio. What's more, when you buy America's Only True Production Sports Car, most of the special items you want are already standard. As this list of Corvette Standards indicates:
Fiberglass body construction reinforced with a steel substructure.
Delco AM/FM radio, power-operated retractable dual headlights, Removable roof panels, Tinted glass in all windows, Built-in anti-theft audio alarm system, Wide 15 X 8 wheels with steel-belted radial ply tires, Independent suspension, front and rear, Limited-slip differential rear axle, power disc brakes at all four wheels, power steering, 5.7 Litre V8, Choice of Four-Speed manual or automatic transmission, Full instrumentation including speedometer with trip odometer, 0-7000 RPM tachometer, water temperature gage, oil pressure gage, voltmeter, fuel gage, and electric clock, Extensive sound insulation, Sport-styled 4-spoke leather wrapped steering wheel, Aircraft-styled center console, Column-mounted switch that controls turn signals, high and low headlight beams, Instrument panel and roof courtesy lights with automatic door switches, Cut-pile carpeting on floors, sides of tunnel, door sills, and luggage area, Swiveling sun visors, Day/Night inside rearview mirror, Color-keyed seat/shoulder belts, High-back bucket seats with molded full-foam construction, Passenger seat back folds flat on cushion for easier access to rear storage area, Choice of leather or cloth trim on seat inserts, Rear compartment storage wells (one lockable), Luggage space roll shade to conceal luggage, Heavy-gage frame structure with corrosion-resistant coating, High-rise front fenders with functional louvers, Fiberglass inner front fenders, Body-colored, energy absorbing bumpers, Twin bumper guards, front and rear, Concealed windshield wipers with integral washers, Wide outside rearview mirror, High Energy Ignition System, Delcotron generator with solid state regulator, Exhaust Valve Rotators, and the list goes on.
