We acquired this Corvette out of Montana where it was originally sold new and had never left that state until we purchased it. This Corvette has about every desirable option for the 1980 model and back then this was the one to have. The car is a great original example of an 80 model that is mostly all original except for the paint and a few cosmetic things that have been done to the car over the years. The documentation is nice as well and is one of those cars that when you take it for a test drive you will buy it. The car drives out smoothly and performs better than most any 77-82 that I have driven. The car goes straight down the road and the tires are balanced out smoothly. Most everything is in working condition and even the clock occasionally still works as it is a mechanical movement and has not been converted to a quartz movement. The color combination on this car is different and unusual and has grown on us since we have owned it. This was the last year to see the L-82 engine option and was only available with an automatic transmission from what research we have done. The 1980-1982 Corvettes had a unique look to them with the different front and rear bumpers and that the front bumper was molded into the front fenders. These models are appreciating in value as they are still affordable and are now considered a classic.
EXTERIOR:
The body on this Corvette is in very good condition and has been repainted at one time. The original paint is still visible on the door jamb areas and match up with the rest of the finish. The window glass is original to this car as well. The fitment of the doors, hood, bumpers, etc. are all fitted as good as they came from the factory. The paint finish does appear to have a clear coat which makes the car shine even better. The body appears to not have had any damage or any type of fender replacement as many had had. The miles on the car are correct to the best of our knowledge and the car does drive like a 40,600 mile car. The glass t-tops are original to the car too and are not cracked or scratched up and are considered the “mirrored” ones. The do look good on the car and make the look of this era. The aluminum wheels are nice and original with no curb markings and a set of BF/Goodrich Radial TA’s have been installed and the tread is excellent on them.
INTERIOR:
The interior on this 80 model is all original and is in excellent condition. The leather seats, carpeting, door panels, dash, console, and instruments are original to this car and in great shape. The dash assembly, seats, and the steering wheel have no cracks or real wear and look fresh and almost factory new. The seat belts have no wear or tears as they tend to get caught up in the door jamb stricker and when the door closes I have seen many with tears and such as this really messes them up. The original radio is intact and new speakers have been installed as the older ones were not properly working. The original jack and lug wrench along with the t-top storage bags are all intact and behind the seats in the storage compartment. The rear two-lid plastic storage compartment is still in good shape but the lid for the battery has become unattached and simply lifts in and out. You can buy a reproduction one but the finish isn’t always the same and we intend on taking a look at this one to see if it can be repaired. The gauges all function and the clock even works on occasion. Dash lights, door buzzer, all still function too.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHASSIS:
The engine in this Corvette is correct and matching numbers to this Corvette. Even the original alternator was still on the car and we recently had it rebuilt. The air breather assembly is original but has been refinished. The spark plug wires are still date coded and even the air conditioning belt is still the original GM one. Such things as the brake calipers have been rebuilt over time and the catalytic converter has been removed and the exhaust system appears to have been replaced at one time. The original spare tire and wheel is also underneath the car. We did have the original rocker moldings refinished and some of the photos shown are with them off to see the original markings and inspections on the chassis. The chassis on this car is very good with no rot or rust and as shown the markings from the factory are very visible throughout. This car also has the optional (FE7) option which is the Gymkhana Suspension. The chassis has not been detailed but wouldn’t take much if a person wanted to really make it alittle more show ready. Definitely, not driven in the winter months and any inclimate weather as it would not look as good as it does if it had been. A nice solid original car.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS TO THE 1980 MODEL YEAR:
The new, aerodynamically designed fron bumper cover now features an
Integral air dam and deeply recessed grille and parking lights. And functional
Air exhaust louvers were added to the front fender air vents. They’re black in
Keeping with many other styling accents.
Other exterior highlights include a new hood with a lower profile, New rear
Bumper cover with integral spoiler. New flag emblems. New rear tail lights,
And cornering lights, new to Corvette as well as being standard, are fully
Automatic. The lights are illuminated by the turn signal when the headlights
Are on…and are turned off when the turn signals are cancelled.
After several years of weight increases, the Corvette was lighter for 1980
As engineers trimmed weight by using lower density roof panels, reducing
The thickness of the hood and outer doors, and using aluminum for the
Differential housing and crossmember. The aluminum intake manifold
Became standard even on th base L48 engine.
For improved surface quality, urethane was applied during moldings to panels
Forward of the firewall and to roof panels.
Radiator air flow increased about fifty-percent.
A new federal requirement was that the speedometers for 1980 read to a
Maximum of 85 mph.
The rear storage compartments were changed from a three-lid design to a
Two-lid style in the 1980 model. The battery stayed is a separate compartment
Behind the driver, but the center and passenger-side compartments were
Combined with one access door.
