Up for your consideration is a 2006 Chevrolet Corvette C6 Convertible. This was the second year for the new 6th generation and this one is finished in Machine Silver with Ebony (Black) leather interior and matching black canvas cloth soft top. This Corvette has the desirable 3LT Preferred Equipment Group which was the highest trim level for this model year back then. This was a $3,395 option and included uplevel equipment plus head-up display, power telescoping steering column, auto-dimming inside and outside mirrors, heated seats, U2K radio, cargo net, luggage shade, homelink (garage door) transmitter, memory package, and a power convertible soft top.
This Corvette also features all power equipment, dual power seats with lumbar support, , active handling, traction control, dual-zone electronic air conditioning, keyless access and start, fog lamps, leather wrapped tilt steering wheel, cruise control, tire pressure monitor system, carpeted floor mats, and outside heated mirrors.
The Corvette is powered by the 400 HP 6.0L LS2 V8 and optioned with the 6-speed automatic transmission.
The automatic transmission in this car was an option. Electronically controlled by an internally-mounted 32-bit processor, it permitted driver selection of two full automatic shifting modes, Drive and Sport, plus manual control in Sport mode by steering-wheel mounted paddles.
The odometer reading on this Corvette shows 59,125. We sold this one locally about three years ago with 45,000 miles on the odometer to a local lady who now has decided to sell. She did replace the tires recently along with a new battery and the harmonic balancer as that was a common issue with the C6 models with the LS2 engine. With those items fixed the car is ready to enjoy and drive. The color combination is sharp and does not show dirt at all. The aluminum wheels are the stock factory ones painted silver from the factory and match well with the silver finish on this Corvette.
Front airbags employed passenger-sensing technology. A sensor in the passenger seat automatically disabled the passenger-side airbag if no passenger (or a passenger under a predetermined weight) was detected.
XM radio, a separate option for 2005, was included with 2006’s RPO U2K premium Bose radio system which this one has. The XM radio antenna was hidden from exterior view in the exterior rearview mirrors. This Corvette also features the factory touch screen radio with Navigation that had separate discs for different regions of the country.
A new three-spoke steering wheel replaced the four-spoke unit used exclusively in 2005 models. The steering wheel was slightly smaller than the previous year.
When the C6 generation was launched several changes occurred from the previous 5th generation of the Corvette. It did retain the C5’s front-engine, rear transmission layout, but the body and interior were new. Most chassis parts were re-engineered, and nearly every dimension changed. Length was reduced 5.1 inches and width 1.1 inches. Wheelbase increased 1.2 inches to 105.7. The increased wheelbase and efficient packaging permitted interior and storage volumes to remain similar despite the length and width reductions.
New exposed headlights were on the new 6th generation, not seen in Corvettes since the 1962 model. They used Xenon high intensity discharge low-beam projector lenses, and tungsten-halogen high-beam projectors under clear polycarbonate covers. Also under the covers were parking lights, side-turn markers and daytime running lights, all set into body-colored housings.
Several nice new options and features became available including a power convertible soft top, not seen since 1962, XM radio, OnStar communications, A DVD-Navigation based radio, heated seats, and seat-mounted side impact airbags.
The engine designation was changed to the LS2 which was a 6.0L V8 producing 400 HP. This engine displacement increased from (5.7L) to (6.0L) 364 cubic inches by enlarging the bore from 3.9 inches to 4.0. Torque increased to 400 as well. The LS2 had numerous refinements, including increased camshaft lift, a higher compression ratio (10.9:1), lighter exhaust manifolds and a wingless aluminum oil pan that improved oil control during high g-force driving while reducing oil capacity from 6.5 to 5.5 quarts with filter. Redline for the LS2 was 6500 rpm, compared to LS1’s 6000 rpm.
The wheel size also changed to 18x8.5 front and 19x10 rear.
A new keyless access and push button start was standard equipment. A small key was included for the glovebox, console, and emergency entry, but normal door lock-unlock and push button starting were activated by key fob proximity.
This Corvette does include the manuals and window sticker along with previous owner history. The Corvette is mostly all stock and original with no engine modifications and does have a nice cat-back bolt on stainless steel performance exhaust system from FlowMaster that gives the car a much better sound but not overly loud.
There were 1,636 2006 Corvette Convertibles produced in this color called Machine Silver. This color was offered from 2005 through 2008 only.
This Corvette is a great entry-level later model one with plenty of performance and technology for its time.
This Corvette also features a nice sized trunk with access from the outside even with the convertible top in the down position.
Please note that this Corvette is being sold on a consignment sale and is currently not at our location for viewing in Nixa Missouri . This Corvette is local, in the Ozark Missouri area, and can be shown at most anytime within a given amount of notice.
If interested we can arrange for the car to be back at our location or we can give you the owner’s information to get into contact with them.
