Black With Red Interior, Rare Factory 4-Speed Car, Only Two-Owners Since New!
Available for sale for the first time in some thirty plus years is a nice driver quality 1979 Corvette T-Top coupe. This Corvette is finished in Black exterior with a rare Red leather interior and a factory 4-Speed car. This Corvette shows 76,856 miles and is believed to be actual. The engine is the L-48 original numbers matching one but has been rebuilt and a mild cam installed for a great sound at idle and a little more performance than stock. Nothing radical and the engine bay is still dressed as original with the exception of the chrome plated valve covers. It does still have the original air breather, ignition system, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds, etc. This Corvette has had only two-owners since new and has been in the same family as well. The second owner has owned the car for thirty plus years and is available to speak with to answer any questions a potential buyer may have.
The car does present itself well for the age. The body is in good shape and the car was repainted several years ago at one time. The exterior window trim and rocker moldings have been painted a gloss black to match the finish of this car and do look good. Those items were originally a satin black finish. It does still have plenty of shine and the doors, hood, headlight, all fit nicely. There are some flaws in the older paint mainly on the top front fenders but the rest of the car is very presentable. The window glass has all been tinted but can be removed if desired. The glass also fits nice as well as the original T-Tops. The car does have a nice set of chrome plated vintage wire wheels that are in amazing shape with no rust. They are mounted on a brand new set of BF/Goodrich Radial T/A white lettered tires that cost almost $1,000 once mounted and balanced. If the wheels are not something you would like I can set you up with a set of the original style optional aluminum wheels that came on these cars in that era at an additional cost.
The interior on the car is mostly original with the exception of new carpeting at one time. The original dash is not cracked or showing any real wear and the door panels along with the original seats are still in good presentable shape. Not perfect but ideal for a car that you would want to drive and enjoy. The car does have an upgraded Pioneer AM/FM cassette stereo and speakers. The console and shifter are original to the car.
The engine bay and chassis are nice and original with no real rot or rust and the bird cage is still in great shape as this car was kept inside and out of the elements for all of the years. The power brake booster still has the nice original cadium finish, the radiator was removed and cleaned at one time, new alternator, new shocks, heater hoses, belts, wheel bearings, brakes, water pump, and the list goes on all documented by the second owner as to what all was rebuilt, replaced, or restored over the years of the second owner of ownership. This Corvette was definitely maintained and cared for and it rides and drives out nicely. The transmission shifts smoothly, engine idles excellent with that nice sounding mild cam, no overheating issues, the a/c compressor was replaced at one time and works but is not blowing ice cold air. A new true-dual exhaust system has been installed and makes the car sound very good.
The frame is solid and and good and is presentable if up in the air to view. The original spare tire and wheel are intact along with the original jack and lug wrench. The original t-top storage bags are still behind the seats as those are usually missing.
The cam specs and information along with a detailed sheet of everything listed and more that has been done to this car is included with the sale. An original owners manual and two sets of keys are included. Most everything still works on this Corvette such as the headlights, windshield wipers, all power equipment, etc. The a/c would be the only real issue to address.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT THIS MODEL YEAR:
The new “high back” seat style introduced in the 1978 pace car replicas was made standard equipment in 1979. Extensive use of plastic in the frame structure resulted in weight reduction of about twelve pounds per seat. The new seats had better side bolster support, and the backs folded at a higher point to permit easier rear storage access. Inertia locking mechanisms restrained the backs in sudden deceleration, negating the need for manual locks. Driver and passenger seat tracks were redesigned for an additional inch of forward travel.
Output of both the base L48 and optional L82 engines increased by 5hp due to a new “open flow” muffler design. Also, adding the L82’s low restriction, dual-snorkel air intake to the base engine added another 5hp.
This was the last year to see the 140-mph speedometer as the 85-mph speedometer was phased into late 1979 models. This Corvette still has the 140-mph speedometer.
The optional ZX2 package included dome and courtesy light delay, headlight warning buzzer, underhood light, low fuel warning light, floor mats, intermittent wipers, and right side visor mirror. This Corvette has that option.
The original base price of a 1979 Corvette came in at $10,220.23
This is a great entry-level C3 Corvette that can be driven and enjoyed at a reasonable price. These are good investment types of cars that tend to not depreciate but appreciate over time.
