Available for the first time in 23 years is a nice original 1978 Corvette Silver Anniversary T-Top Coupe. This Corvette has only 16,620 actual miles and is nicely documented. The current owner has always garage-kept this car and driven it often to keep everything in good working order. After many years, he has decided to sell and reached out to us to market this vehicle for him. The car is a very good, solid original car with what appears to be the original paint and interior in nice condition. The silver does not show signs of fading, and all of the original decals are still in nice shape. The exterior trim, urethane bumpers, and all of the window glass are in excellent shape. The interior is all original and is in “as new” condition with no signs of wear or fading, as this car has not been left out in the sun. Even the weatherstrip seals do not need replacing, and the original aluminum wheels still have a nice finish on all of them. I have looked at many of these original anniversary cars, and most need to be repainted. This one does not.
The air conditioning has been gone through and works, the headlights all function and operate like they should, the original radio is still intact and working, and the car was equipped without power windows, which was unusual for this year.
The car does feature the L-48 350 C.I. V8 engine with an automatic transmission and optional cruise control. It also has power steering, power disc brakes, positraction rear axle, P255/60R-15 tires, leather-wrapped tilt/telescopic steering wheel, rear window defogger, sport mirrors, AM/FM radio, and more.
1978 marked the 25th Anniversary of the Corvette, and in doing so, several changes occurred, and two special edition models were introduced. The Pace Car replicas and the Silver Anniversary two-tone paint that was an actual $399.00 option.
The 1978 model was most extensively redesigned since the 1968 model. New “fastback” rear-end styling featured a larger rear window, but no hatchback. This design change created significantly more luggage space behind the seats. Also, a retracting cover was added for security and sun protection.
The 1978 interior was redesigned significantly. The speedometer and tachometer were redone in a more square, vertical model. A glove box was added. Inner door panels were completely new and featured screwed-on armrests instead of the molded-in style common to Corvettes since 1965. Windshield wiper and washer controls were moved back to the instrument panel, but the dimmer remained on the steering column. The center console, redone for 1977, essentially carried over.
“25th Anniversary” emblems appeared exclusively on 1978 models.
The “Silver Anniversary” paint option consisted of a lighter silver upper surface and a darker silver lower surface, divided by silver striping. Sport mirror and aluminum wheels were required.
This Corvette is documented with title history, the original build sheet, and owners manual, receipts, and other information pertaining to the history of this Corvette.
